This document provides an overview of the main benefits of using a Windows operating system.

Windows is a GOOEY (Graphical User Interface) based operating system, and is one of the most popular operating systems ever invented. As such, Windows provides the most effective and productive way to access, work, and play with your computer. Although there is a variety of other different operating systems available to download and install for free, Windows is simply the easiest to use. Windows is for any person that does not have the time or motivation to learn complex text based operating systems as as Linux or Lindows. A typical home PC user can get started by installing a fresh copy of Windows within only a few hours; a text based operating system (or one that does not have a GOOEY installed by default, such as Linux or Unix), requires a much higher degree of programming and PC knowledge and can be quite intimidating for the average home PC user.

Advantages Of Windows

Listed below are some additional advantages to using Windows:

  1. Windows controls how your computer operates. It has a large number of components that run silently in the background with each in charge of a different aspect of the computer. You can focus on your own work and let Windows run the computer for you.

  2. Windows acts as the primary facilitator when installing and communicating with new hardware devices.

  3. Windows makes it simple to connect to the Internet and local area networks through its internal networking components.

  4. Windows makes it simple to setup a local area network for personal or business use and share files, folders, and other hardware devices including printers and faxing devices. e. Windows facilitates the process of organizing and playback of digital media files including MP3 audio files and Digital Video Disc (DVD) movies.

The Run Down

So even though all you see on your screen when Windows boots up is a green start menu and a grey bar at the bottom of your screen loaded with tiny little icons, there is actually a lot more going on within the Windows operating system then what you see. This page is just an introduction outlining the main responsibilities of the Windows system.

The next few pages will explain some more concepts and also help you get started moving around Windows by opening and closing applications, resizing, minimizing, and maximizing windows, as well as completing other introductory based tasks.
